weekend trip - Reina Sofia Museum

Modern, beautiful, only one scary exhibit, and ton's o fun! If you are an art lover with a passion for Dali, a crush on Picasso and perhaps a slight obsession with Miro, here is your haven.

reenactment

Chamonix Mont Blanc

Fly into Switzerland. Walk over to France to pick up our rental.

  • 8 kids who have never rented a car before, much less driven in a foreign country, with a vague sense of direction, and four street names written on a sheet of paper
  • Weave in and out of Switzerland and France many, many times
  • Lost a few times
  • The Swiss are so helpful

3 hours later Check into Hotel and eat

Wake up, hike, and drink tea in the Mountains

Canyoning

  • Repelling is HARD. Flopping and thrashing about, I smacked into that waterfall enough times to curate a beautiful collection of bruises.
  • Canyoners don't mess around with their wetsuits.
  • Think to myself ohmygoshican'tbeliveijustdidthat repeatedly.
  • Best. Day. Of. My. Life.

Back at the hotel
  • We equipped ourselves with the necessities, enough cheese to load a ship and enough chocolate to drown it.

Adios Switzerland/France it's been swell.

a promise is a promise - even if it's a bit late

Saturday Sunday: sick, stared at ceiling and wallowed in self pity

Monday: school, learn the salsa and how to say refrigerator in spanish nevera, nevera, nevera, nevera, nevera

Tuesday: school, develop an alarming obsession with planet money. Toxie's back, guys!

Wednesday: school, step on partner's toes. Get lost from post office.

Thursday: school, tired. Fiesta!

Friday: Geneva, prepare to jump off some mountains.

*Lost my way and found myself alone in this rose garden. Apparently Romeo missed the memo.

*First dress from Spain
I am looking for a good pair of ugly shoes.

sueño

Sometimes it's just so hard to do your homework, you know? Your eyes get heavy and hands get slow, but that presentation is due tomorrow and you.. have.... to... fini..s..h.

Also, tomorrow I promise to tell you more about life aside from papers and tests. Although who doesn't enjoy a great spanish paper on business practices in Sweden?!

Be back Sunday

Off to climb the mountains of Switzerland!

Thursday, September 22, 2011

I would like to own a star map. I would frame it, hang it, and stare at it for long periods of time.

Life's story in one small adjetive

LATE (adj.) Behind what would otherwise be a beneficial schedule.

Honestly 9am classes are rather difficult.

I would like to watch some Star Wars and Harrison Ford. I'll even watch it in spanish... I just don't want to study.

Still on the list...

La lucha

The familia is out of breakfast foods; this could pose a serious problem. I stared at the bananas this morning for a good few minuets trying to gage my hunger. Has it come down to this? Just me and them? No, I persevered tea was fine, but give it two more days and my stamina may fall.

*Also the luby's post was Anderson. My affection of the establishment is nowhere near her devotion, but what a lovely girl.

Luby's. What can I say, it's an American icon. It's true that some people say that it is "old people food", but as any true Lubyien will tell you cafeteria style mac'n cheese is fun for ages 9 to 90! However, lately I have been losing faith I feel like every time I turn around another Luby's has closed for good. Then i found it. lubys.com. Yes my friends Luby's has gone digital. There are all sorts of fun tabs from "Goodies" to my personal favorite "Get Lubyfied", but don't let me tell you, go and check out the fun for yourself!

Try to imagine yourself in the Cretaceous period

I have no idea. Call it a late night, stress, insanity, or my new addiction to a strange brand of spanish chocolate cereal, but this had me falling out of my chair with laughter.

*found via colossal created by Tal Moskovich who uses a Sam Neil voiceover from Jurassic Park to narrate. awesome.

Vida en España

Family is everything here. You eat with family, you dance with family, you learn with family. It's wonderful.

Bread is served with every meal.

Every ensemble is fit for an occasion. You dress for the day and your day has a purpose.

Sólo en España

The paper is longer - legal size.
Conditioner is hard to find here.
Lunch is dinner and dinner is later.
Other Spaniards may eat slow, but in the home of my host family dinner is a sprint.
Wearing workout clothes or lounge wear to the grocery store is not tolerated.
Life is lived at a slower pace, yet they still have exams and homework and deadlines. And for some reason I am still late.
People hold hands strolling down the street, family congregate for evening fiestas, and public demonstrations of affection is everywhere.

Siesta

Friday afternoon naps. School is a whirlwind, but the Spaniards have got it right with siestas.
