Holiday gift guide: host siblings

A toy car, for your host brother who's determined that he needs one, and with his elaborate schemes and youngest child smile will probably get one.

A small coin bag, for your sweet host cousin who graciously corrects your spanish papers and dances with you in the kitchen.

A quirky fox ring, for your host sister who can make the whole family laugh till they cry, draws a perfecct reproduction of the placio real, and complements you daily on the improvement of your spanish skills while you yourself may never be convinced.

Our dance class is over and I am a bit sad. It was a lovely time and while I may have never successfully mastered the "hips" I had a blast trying.

The magic slide

My dad sent me this book a few weeks ago and I must say it was a brilliant gift. It was not big, nor flashy, but a simple reminder of memories. A ticket back to story times with my parents when my sister and I were still too small to reach the kitchen sink.

We really had only one plan for this trip, which was to eat, and I think we accomplished it quite successfully.

My friend and I baked cookies a few weekends ago. It was a nice reminder of home. And are we not gifted decorators?

El tiempo con mi familia es mi favorita (especialmente cuando hay comida).

PS sorry for my prolonged absence I'll try to be better about this.

Treat yo self

Dear Aunt B,

Things have been wildly unfair, but this just means its time to TREAT YO SELF.

You deserve a nice pair of sparkly shoes

Star dusted jewelry
stinky cheese
And some fine leather goods.

I always wonder why
birds stay
in the same place
when they can fly
anywhere on the earth.
Then I ask myself
the same question.

Things that I probably don't need but I want anyway

Flowers in my room

A nice pair of ballerina shoes with a slight heel that I cannot quite determine if they are slightly off or perfect. I found some hideous beautiful ones at Rastro but they were 30 euro. What kind of flea market buy is that?
A beautiful beat up leather briefcase to tote my school things in - this is almost becoming a necessity because no one carries a backpack. With one here you stick out a bit like a sore thumb. I used to be so proud of mine in the sixth grade too.

My camera has died. It needs new batteries, thus until I can find them here are some posts from around the web to help you pleasantly procrastinate with your day.

My 6th grade reading teacher had us analyze Norton Juster's "The Phantom Tollbooth". At first I felt it to be rather useless, but once Milo entered the Duldrums all I wanted to do was inform others on allegories and use the word "lethargic" in every sentence. Happy Birthday Milo.

I will not lie. I enjoy a good romantic comedy complete with it's imperative scene in the rain. In the The New Yorker, author Mindy Kaling shares her hilarious truth on the 7 types of women in romantic comedies.

Tomorrow night my fellow beginner dance class members and I will be debuting our skills in a genuine Spanish salsa club. Oh, don't you wish you could see it?

Erdem Moralioglu Spring 2012

Soft lace, perfectly perched hats, painted lips and delicate gloves. What a lovely tea party.

weekend trip - Reina Sofia Museum

Modern, beautiful, only one scary exhibit, and ton's o fun! If you are an art lover with a passion for Dali, a crush on Picasso and perhaps a slight obsession with Miro, here is your haven.
